NUR-SULTAN – Despite the pandemic, people continue to travel abroad and within the country. Experts in the field of tourism spoke about the preferences of the Kazakh people this year.
The director of the Association of Tour Operators of Kazakhstan, Inna Ray, said in an interview with Inbusiness.kz that people’s preferences have not changed much.
Antalya leads the ranking of the best destinations, followed by Egypt with the resorts of Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and Mersa Matrouh. Travel to the United Arab Emirates is also in demand.
In connection with the available flights of the airline FlyArystan, Georgia is of interest to Kazakh citizens. In addition, direct flights to Montenegro have been launched.
âMany tourists prefer to visit Europe in the summer. But, unfortunately, now they don’t have the opportunity to go. Therefore, they turned their attention to affordable resorts that can be reached by a direct flight elsewhere, âsaid Ray.
The latest UNWTO data shows that in the first five months of the year, global destinations recorded 147 million fewer international arrivals (overnight visitors) compared to the same period of 2020, or 460 million less than the pre-pandemic year of 2019. However, data points to a relatively weak recovery in May, with arrivals falling by 82% (compared to May 2019), after falling 86% in April. This slight upward trend came as some destinations began to ease restrictions and consumer confidence edged up.
After the borders were closed last year, the demand for domestic destinations increased dramatically. People mainly go to Lake Alakol, Borovoe Nature Reserve in Akmola region, Lake Balkhash, and sanatoriums and resorts in Almaty and Aktau region.
