Lower Bucks County motorists will face travel restrictions this weekend and next week on and near US1 for road construction and coring operations in the townships of Bensalem and Middletown, announced today The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The hours and places of work are:
- Friday, November 12, 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13, Street Road (Route 132) will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the Turnpike and Old Lincoln Highway for the construction of the intersection;
- From Monday, November 15 to Thursday, November 18, 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., periodic north and southbound single-lane closures and 15-minute stops may be in place on US 1 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange and the Penndel / US1 Commercial Interchange for controlled blasting to remove rock from US1 embankments; and
- From Monday November 15 to Thursday November 18, 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Bristol Road will be closed between Neshaminy Boulevard and Old Lincoln Highway during periodic 15-minute traffic stops on US1.
Motorists should allow more time to move around the work area. All scheduled activities depend on the weather. Crews are rebuilding and widening nearly three miles of roadway, improving interchanges, and building several new bridges – including new structures on Neshaminy Creek and on the rail tracks near the Penndel exit – under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, expand and improve US1 in Bucks County. JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Pa., Is the general contractor for the $ 110.8 million RC2 section project scheduled for completion in mid-2026. Alan Myers Construction, of Worcester, Pa., Is the general contractor for the $ 95 million RC1 section project scheduled for completion in mid-2022. Sections RC1 and RC2 are two of the three construction contracts to rebuild and expand US 1; replace aging bridges; and installing safety improvements along a four mile section of the highway from north Philadelphia to north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in the Township of Middletown and the Borough of Langhorne.
