Manchester Airports Group creates 1,000 jobs as travel restrictions ease

Around 1,000 jobs are available at Manchester Airports Group (MAG) as the easing of travel restrictions strengthens the air transport sector.

There are jobs at MAG’s three airports – Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands – ranging from security guards, customer service officers and car park staff to reception and lounge workers. There are over 500 security posts at Manchester and London Stansted and up to 95 security posts at East Midlands Airport. Other jobs are also available in airport ground handling services, cleaning companies, shops and restaurants.

A series of virtual job fairs are planned to promote the jobs available at each of MAG’s airports. The East Midlands Airport event will take place on February 1, the London Stansted Airport show will take place on January 27 and the Manchester Airport show will take place on January 25. To encourage applications, MAG offers successful candidates discounts on public transport when commuting to work (80% at London Stansted Airport), free on-site parking while you work and go on holiday, a pension plan, training programs and point-of-sale discounts.

All three MAG airports saw a recovery in October and November. This slowed slightly when restrictions were implemented in the UK in response to the omicron variant of Covid-19. However, since the removal of these controls in January 2022, the travel industry has started to recover in time for the busy summer season, with consumer confidence and bookings increasing in the days following the announcement.

Cath Bailey, MAG’s Director of Human Resources, said: “It’s great that our passengers have more freedom to fly, as the aviation industry gets back on its road to recovery. We always knew the sector would rebound quickly with the easing of travel restrictions, which eased over the weekend. This means we now have hundreds of fantastic and interesting roles available to suit a wide range of people with different experiences, skills and backgrounds. We encourage applications from people with strong interpersonal skills, ambition and enthusiasm.

“Airports are great places to work, varied, interesting and with great potential. Our colleagues derive great satisfaction from their work by interacting with customers and helping them get their vacation off to a good start. This is a great opportunity to develop your career and join our friendly team at one of MAG’s bustling and dynamic airports.
