Hong Kongers flock to travel agencies as entry limits to relax

Many Hong Kongers have gathered at travel agencies for overseas travel information as the “0+3” quarantine measure will be in effect from Monday.

Citizens were seen queuing outside several travel agencies in Mongkok. According to the agencies, people mainly inquire about air tickets and travel to Japan and Europe.

“I would be willing to pay more as I haven’t had the chance to travel abroad for years,” said one woman when asked about the increase in travel fares for trips under the outbreak.

Steve Huen Kwok-chuen, executive director of EGL Holdings Company Limited, said the travel agency’s business revenue had recovered 10 to 20 percent of the amount before the outbreak.

He notes that more than a hundred people flock to the agency daily to check out information on overseas travel.

However, he called for more flights to be added by airlines and for travel agencies to be able to organize more trips accordingly.

Authorities confirmed 3,897 new Covid patients reported on Sunday, including 117 imported cases and 10 deaths, on the first day after the government announced the cancellation of the daily Covid press briefing.
