Finnair will launch routes between three Nordic capitals and Doha as part of a “long-term” strategic partnership with Qatar Airways.
The deal between the two oneworld alliance members will see Finnair operate daily flights from Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen to Doha, which are expected to start between November and December 2022.
Finnair and Qatar Airways will also introduce an extensive codeshare agreement, which will allow Finnair passengers to access Qatar Airways’ network of around 100 destinations from its Doha hub. Meanwhile, Qatar Airways customers can take advantage of Finnair’s network across Europe.
Flights to Doha will be operated using Finnair’s Airbus A330, featuring new long-haul cabins and premium economy class, as well as a “refreshed” economy cabin.
Finnair CEO Topi Manner said: “Doha’s role as an international hub is growing and Qatar Airways has many routes from Doha to, for example, Australasia, the Middle East and the United States. ‘Africa”.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker added: “This strategic partnership demonstrates our commitment to the Nordic markets and reinforces our position as the leading Middle Eastern carrier in this important region. This partnership will be the basis for future expansion here.
The announcement comes as Qatar prepares to host the 2022 World Cup soccer tournament from November 20 to December 18.
