Recently, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that it is not easy for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to control international online travel agencies. The Minister of Tourism also explained that several international online travel agencies are international companies based abroad.
Even though their business activity is covered by the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482), their business nature which only operates online without having a physical office in Malaysia has made it difficult for the ministry. to take legal action against them, she said.
Despite this, Nancy explained that the ministry was more interested in taking a sympathetic approach that would encourage the sector to grow.
“The Ministry has held several engagement sessions with a few international online travel agencies that offer travel packages or services in this country to comply with Law 482 and to register their operations by obtaining the TOBTAB (Tour Operating Business and Travel Agency Business).”
“As a result, there are foreign online travel agencies that have opened branches here that have ministerial licenses such as Klook Travel Technology Sdn Bhd, Traveloka Sdn Bhd and BEX Travel Malaysia Sdn Bhd,” she said. to Larry Sng (PBM – Julau) at Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
