CAPE TOWN — The Mother City has won another international accolade even as it recently made headlines for a spate of shootings and kidnappings.

Readers of luxury travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler rank Cape Town as the ninth best city in the world, just ahead of Mumbai in India.

The top three were San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, and Singapore and Victoria in Canada.

This is the latest in a series of welcome rankings, Cape Town comments.

“These awards drive significant global attention and viewership value and come at a crucial time as we head into our peak visitor season.”

Cape Town is a triple-A rated destination for accommodation, attractions and aviation, according to the city, and there’s been a slight uptick in all of that.

“Across all three categories we are recording fantastic recovery numbers with even better numbers expected for the months to come. Between November and December, we expect 184 international flights per week. This will increase to 191 flights per week between January and March next year.
